Cider / Perry
CIDER & PERRY

What are Real Cider and Perry? They are both long established traditional drinks which are produced from either apples (Cider) or pears (Perry) and are neither artificially carbonated nor pasteurised. Real Perry is produced from specially grown pears and can only be produced in low quantities. When the juice from the pears is fermented the drink produced is called Perry not Pear Cider. Whilst Real Cider can be found in a growing number of pubs this is rarely the case for Real Perry. As the products are natural it is possible that the actual alcohol may vary. The basic premise for production remains - simply pick and press the fruit, allow to ferment and enjoy.

CAMRA actively promotes the interests of those people who enjoy Real Cider and Perry.

A growing number of Pubs in our area sell these wonderful products.

There is a growing number of Cider and Perry products now being sold containing 'flavourings'. Unless they contain only apples or pears they are not accepted by Camra as Real Cider or Perry. Some other products are also not considered to be Real Cider or Perry. To get an up to date definition please consult the Camra National website at www.camra.org.uk
